Welcome to Acetate & Dreams
We thought that this was just a fun FYI page to help you get into our mind set and outlook on music. All of the band names listed above are the different personas we take on when the mood strikes us. They are all under the umbrella name of Acetate and Dreams - why - Not sure - It was just a cool name the Glenn came up with. We were going to make a website and YouTube channel under the name Acetate and Dreams, paying homage to our love for the days of vinyl and liner notes, but thought it might get a little convoluted. In the end, decided on just using Since June, but thought we would make this page for whomever may be interested.
Alternative names have a long history in music: Blue Oyster Cult would sometimes play out as Soft White Underbelly. Green Day sometimes becomes The Network. David Bowie as Ziggy Stardust and Eminem as Slim Shady. We thought it would be fun to have a few aliases, not to mention, I just like brainstorming band names and album titles. Not to mention probably the most famous alter ego of them all - Vincent Furnier as Alice Cooper.
As mentioned on the homepage, we consider ourselves funk, punk, heavy metal, country, folk band, with a touch of blues.
For Ourselves, our alter egos aren't anything we present to the world in an effort to project different personas. It is more to help us get into a good vibe for a certain musical idea that we may have. Much like a method actor will incorporate the look, feel, and props that would be typical of the character they intend to portray in order to help them get inside that person.
Is is strictly necessary - no - and sometimes is seems a bit silly. But we enjoy it. I think all bands should have alter egos.
Note on the header photo: That is Andy Barnes (Bass), Kevin Reynolds (Drums / Vocals), and myself, Brent Reynolds (Guitar, Vocals) It was taken at our first professional gig (circa 1980/81) in the basement of a church and we made enough money to go out for pizza later on. If we ever play out again live, I will put that photo up.
